Firebolt

Firebolt is a modern, cloud-native analytical database designed to address the extreme performance and cost constraints of running complicated, high-concurrency, and latency-sensitive analytical applications over huge datasets (terabytes to petabytes). It is positioned as a high-speed alternative to conventional data warehouses and general-purpose cloud solutions, with a focus on use cases such as customer-facing data apps, real-time BI dashboards, and ad hoc operational analytics that require sub-second response rates.

Compute is divided into scalable, ephemeral Engines, which are dedicated compute clusters that may be enlarged and adjusted for certain workloads. They use a vectorized query engine and multi-tier caching to achieve maximum processing efficiency. Importantly, Engines can be set to shut down automatically after periods of inactivity, allowing for genuine pay-per-use billing (firebolt unit usage per second).
