Google Cloud CDN Description

Google Cloud CDN is a global, distributed Content Delivery Network (CDN) service that uses the same high-speed, low-latency infrastructure that Google created to serve its core apps like Search, Gmail, and YouTube. Its major function is to expedite the delivery of static and dynamic online material, pictures, and video to users all over the world, greatly cutting latency and burden on origin servers. Cloud CDN accomplishes this speed and dependability by caching material at over 170 Points of Presence (PoPs) spread across more than 100 cities worldwide.

A fundamental architectural advantage of Google Cloud CDN is its close integration with the Google Cloud Global External HTTP(S) Load Balancer. This integration assigns a single, global Anycast IP address to all edge sites, automatically routing users to the nearest cache for best performance and eliminating the DNS latency often associated with regional routing. When configuring backends, the setup is simplified to a single checkbox, and it supports both Google Cloud origins (such as Cloud Storage, Compute Engine, and Cloud Run) and external backends (custom origins) located on-premises or in other clouds, allowing for hybrid and multi-cloud architectures.
